So what's the weirdest Pesadich food you've seen in the stores?

It seems like every year, the variety of Kosher l'Pesach food that can be found in the stores grows by leaps and bounds. I know that some people simply can't bear to live without certain favorite dishes even for eight days, but...

Kosher l'Pesach wasabi??
I know the Sephardi are allowed to eat rice on Passover, but is Pesach sushi really so common?

What's the strangest thing you've seen in your Passover shopping?

Honey roast ham. No, really! I remember once seeing a grocery store add that had in huge print, "Kosher for Passover!" and included in the add was a honey roast ham.

It's been about 10 years, but I still can't get over the Manichevitz chocolate seder plate. It's like, "Okay, we don't get a chocolate bunny, but we must have something to compete with the goyim or we won't have a single jingl or meydl left standing Jewish!" Huuuuuh?

Almost as good as the chocolate seder plate are the chocolate dinosaur pops. Little chocolate dinosaurs on a stick. Nothing says "oppression of our people" like a candy Brontosaurus.

INSTANT MATZO BALL SOUP. I couldn't believe I saw that!

I'm pretty sure I once saw some toothpaste. But having read about Ravrhi's roast ham, I think she wins.

What gets me is that the boxes of Matzah sold before passover are essentially the same as the boxes of Matzah sold kosher for passover except for the difference in price and the little sticker in the corner of the box. Mmm, capitalism.

capitalism is tasty, isn't it?

Actually, they aren't. Matzah made the rest of the year isn't watched to make sure that it doesn't spend more than 18 minutes from water hitting the matzah to baking.

The necessity to work fast makes it somewhat more difficult, and therefore, more expensive.

My current favorites are the Kosher l'Pesach desserts I saw when I was at the kosher supermarket. The 'Aficone' and 'Hillel Sandwich' frozen treats...I wish I were making this up.

I saw a pizza kit by Manischevitz at the local Giant.

What's so weird about matzoh ball soup mix?

>What's so weird about matzoh ball soup mix?

Isn't matzo not supposed to be exposed to water during Passover?

Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.

Re: fruit gels

I've got some georgeous chocolate covered cherries that are pesadic; bought some choc covered marzipan from the same company this year. Haven't tried them yet. Not all pesadic candy is ukk.

My sister claims she saw k4p BAKING SODA. What the hell is that??? Isn't baking soda the definition of leaven?

[info]eyelid

April 19 2003, 23:36:36 UTC 9 years ago

In and of itself it's not leaven. So I suppose it's perfectly acceptable to eat it.... plain.

At the second seder thursday, which was entirely catered by a kosher caterer, we had k4p popovers.

I know technically they were okay, but it just seemed wrong. They're 90% air and yet they're not leaven-- while a cracker is?

I never understand how there is kosher salsa, because I have never seen hekshered corn chips, hekshered refried beans (if only!), or any other sort of Tex-Mex food. It makes particularly little sense on Pesach, unless you're having salsa with eggs or something. But it's always put prominently with K-P foods in every supermarket.

Kosher For Passover Pizza (Maneschewitz) in the freezer section kinda took the cake for me (as it were).
